Trump shares private text from Macron: “I do not understand what you are doing”
The message shows the French president questioning Washington’s Greenland stance while proposing a rapid diplomatic reset.
Donald Trump has published what he says is a message from French President Emmanuel Macron, posting the text in full on Truth Social and pushing what was likely expected to be a confidential diplomatic exchange into public view.
What did Macron say to Trump?
In it, Macron signals alignment with Washington on Syria and Iran before expressing clear confusion over US policy toward Greenland.
“I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” the message reads, before pivoting to reconciliation. Macron proposes convening a G7-linked meeting in Paris after Davos and hosting Trump for a private dinner before his return to the United States. He also suggests inviting Ukrainians, Danes, Syrians and Russians “in the margins,” an unusually broad mix given current geopolitical tensions.
There has not yet been any public confirmation from the Élysée Palace regarding the message’s authenticity, and Trump offered no additional explanation beyond sharing the text itself.
Trump’ been busy on social media overnight, with two Greenland-focused images.
All of this is certainly causing concern and instability, while some commentators suggest it’s a great way to keep Epstein links out of the headlines.
