Trump’s ‘Big beautiful’ bill passed with changes to Child Tax Credit of up to $2,200: what you need to know
Donald Trump has succeeded in pushing through his Big Beautiful Bill: here’s how it will affect your children.

In a move made for TV, it was JD Vance who played the key role in pushing the vote to 51-50, passing what has been called the Big Beautiful Bill.
The bill, paid for with cuts to healthcare, builds on his billionaire-friendly Tax Cuts and Jobs Act from 2017; it will increase military spending and border control, raising the national debt — currently at $36.2 trillion — by $3.3 trillion over the next 10 years.
Despite the blatant lies on the official government website saying that the bill will “deliver historic relief for working families“, it will in fact slash federal spending on Medicaid and Affordable Care Act by about $1 trillion over a decade, something that will undoubtedly put millions of hardworking Americans’ lives at risk.
The devastating decision pushed through by the former reality show star effectively reverses the people-focussed Affordable Care Act policies of Obama and Biden, who worked to make healthcare easier to access for all.
To put some numbers into the mix, the Congressional Budget Office says that nearly 12 million more people could be without insurance by 2034 due to these cuts, with rural communities set to be hit hardest: local centres will be forced to take on costs previously covered by Medicaid — which will also be forced to hike its prices — and may eventually shut down.
As for childcare, the Child Tax Credit (CTC) system currently offers up to $2,000 per eligible child under age 17, with up to $1,600 of that amount being refundable. This means families can receive that portion as a tax refund.

The bill will increase the credit from $2,000 to $2,200 per child and tie future increases to inflation. However, it would leave the refundable portion unchanged at $1,600 and, to top it all off, most working-class families won’t see the benefit of it anyway as they don’t meet the threshold to be able to be eligible.
