Tuna salad recall hits stores across these four states: what to know
Listeria concerns in breadcrumbs prompt recall of ready-to-eat tuna items sold in certain stores in the U.S.

Albertsons Companies has announced a voluntary recall of several tuna salad products sold in its Albertsons, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores across Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The reason? A breadcrumb ingredient used in the tuna salad may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious illness.
The contaminated breadcrumbs came from Reser’s Fine Foods, the supplier behind the ready-to-eat tuna items. Reser’s initiated its own recall, prompting Albertsons to pull affected products from shelves as a precaution. So far, there have been no reported illnesses or injuries linked to these products, but health officials are urging caution.
What symptoms does Listeria cause?
Listeria monocytogenes can be especially dangerous to people with weakened immune systems, as well as pregnant women, where it can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth. In healthy individuals, symptoms are usually limited to fever, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, but the infection can escalate.
The pathogen is also notoriously resilient, capable of surviving refrigeration and spreading to other foods or surfaces, which makes proper kitchen hygiene even more important.
The FDA is advising anyone who bought one of the affected products to either throw it out or return it to the store for a refund. Also, scrub any containers or surfaces the tuna may have touched.
