Uber Eats delivery driver runs to the police after opening a curious smelling burrito
After detecting a strong smell, the driver decided to stop to check what the customer had ordered.
Home food delivery has become a staple for many restaurants. It was already popular before the pandemic, but during lockdowns, many establishments had to offer this service to keep their businesses afloat. While most deliveries go off without a hitch, there are always exceptions.
One such exception occurred in New Jersey. A delivery driver picked up an order—a burrito—from a restaurant in Lindenwold. Everything seemed normal until he got into his car and noticed a strange smell that didn’t match the expected aroma of a burrito. Instead of food, the package contained nearly an ounce of marijuana.
The driver realised this on his way to Glassboro, stopping in Washington Township when the strong odour raised his suspicions. Upon inspection, he found that the aluminum foil didn’t contain the expected meal but rather a significant amount of marijuana. Concerned, the driver immediately reported the incident to the Washington Township Police Department.
Officer Lou DeStefano confirmed the discovery, finding the marijuana sealed in a bag inside the foil. Alongside it were a bottle of water and a carton of soup. The local police humorously commented on the incident on their social media, saying, “When your burrito delivery comes with extra greens… and we’re not talking guacamole! This wasn’t the kind of wrap anyone ordered.”
Despite the lighthearted social media post, authorities confiscated the substance as evidence and launched an investigation to identify the intended recipient and determine how the drugs ended up in the order.
New Jersey law is clear: possession is allowed within legal limits, but transporting or distributing outside regulated channels is a serious offence. Authorities are now trying to determine if this delivery violated any laws.
