Melania Trump will be FLOTUS once again when her husband is sworn in on January 20, 2025, and like last time she plans to not follow tradition strictly. She already demonstrated that by snubbing First Lady Jill Biden’s invitation to White House for the traditional meeting over tea between the incoming and outgoing FLOTUSes when the president and president-elect also meet. That curtesy wasn’t extended to the Bidens in 2020 by the Trumps.

Also first ladies have traditionally lived in the White House, even when they haven’t been on the best of terms with their husbands. However, according to multiple sources that spoke with CNN, she is currently also not planning on being seen much at the White House over the next four years.

The reason why Melania Trump isn’t likely to live in the White House this term: “This time is different”

Melania’s reported decision not to spend much time at the White House doesn’t have anything to do with marital problems. Instead the report says that over the past four years, Melania has formed a circle of friends and made a life for herself in Florida, which is why she will likely spend much of her time during her husband’s second term at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach according to CNN’s sources.

Another place she’ll be spending her time is New York City as her son Barron Trump is attending New York University. He plans on living at the family’s home in Trump Tower and the sources said that she wants to be close to him.

Despite planning on being away from the White House for a significant portion of the second go-around as first lady, CNN was informed that she will still be there for her husband at major events. As well, while bucking past trends of first ladies, like the others she will have her own platform and priorities.

This time will also be different in that she knows exactly what she’s walking into. “I’m not anxious because this time is different,” she told Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt during an interview to promote her recently released memoir. “I have much more experience and much more knowledge. I was in the White House before. When you go in, you know exactly what to expect.
