Donald Trump

This is why Melania Trump won’t live in the White House full time

Melania Trump has a reputation for being unconventional. She backed out of the traditional White House meeting with first lady Jill Biden after her husband’s presidential victory in November, citing a schedule conflict. That was the most recent of several White House traditions that she sidestepped during Donald’s first term in office.

It was 18 months before Melania finally moved into the White House the first time around. “Looking forward to the memories we’ll make in our new home! #Movingday” she tweeted in June 2017. But she was never a regular presence and had a habit of turning up to events separately from Trump.

According to various sources, it’s unlikely that Melania will return to the White House as FLOTUS during Donald’s second term.

Melania between Florida and New York

First Ladies have traditionally lived in the White House, even when they haven’t been on the best of terms with their husbands. But that’s not the case with Melania and Donald. During the past four years, Melania has formed a circle of friends and carved out her own life in Florida, which is why she will probably spend much of her time at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach rather than in Washington DC, CNN’s sources claim.

Another place she’ll be spending her time is New York City as her son Barron Trump is attending New York University. He plans on living at the family’s home in Trump Tower and the sources said that she wants to be close to him.

Despite planning on being away from the White House for a significant portion of her second stint as FLOTUS, it is said that she will accompany her husband at major events. At the same time she will have her own platform and priorities.

And besides, White House life isn’t for everyone. Michelle Obama told Oprah Winfrey that, “It’s the little things you miss” and that even simple, everyday actions like walking out the front door without discussing it with anyone “becomes a big deal”.

This time will also be different in that she has previous experience. “I’m not anxious because this time is different,” she told Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt in an interview to promote her recently released, self-titled memoir. “I have much more experience and much more knowledge. I was in the White House before. When you go in, you know exactly what to expect.

So while Donald is making America great again, Melania will be doing her own thing on her terms, as always.
