A reminder of the how the electoral college works

The 2024 presidential election is just a handful of days away with millions of votes already cast ahead of Nov. 5. But remember that the winner won’t be decided by the overall number of vote in their favour (the popular vote) but by a group of 538 people that make up the Electoral College.

If you don't already know how this plays out, here's a handy guide.

Rosario Dawson urges to watch Vigilantes Inc for free to save your vote

Even though the 2020 US elections were deemed “the most secure in American history” that didn’t stop Trump and his surrogates from claiming that there had been widespread fraud, which were thoroughly disproven through numerous court cases and investigations, including by Trump’s own people.

However, that hasn’t stopped all of those same people from making the same fraudulent claims again in 2024. This has prompted several to sign up to be poll watchers as part of the Republican party's massive "election integrity" team.

To help people better understand what is behind this playbook, documentarians Greg Palast and David Ambrose have released Vigilantes Inc, which you can watch for free.

Trump says he'll protect women, “whether women like it or not”

Former President Donald Trump said he will protect women whether they like it or not during a rally in Wisconsin Wednesday night. Trump said his advisers told him not to say he wants to protect women.

"I want to protect women of our country. I want to protect women serving. 'Please don't say that. 'Why?' They said, 'We think it's - we think it's very inappropriate,'" Trump said.

"I'm going to do it whether the women like it or not. I have to protect them. I'm going to protect them from immigrants coming in. I'm going to protect them from foreign countries with missiles and a lot of other things," Trump said at the rally in Green Bay.

Pennsylvania is cheating, and getting caught, at large scale levels rarely seen before. REPORT CHEATING TO AUTHORITIES. Law Enforcement must act, NOW!

Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidate

Republican and Democratic clerks of elections are doing their jobs here in Pennsylvania – and together with law enforcement, they’re making sure only eligible voters are able to register and vote.

Let’s remember, in 2020, Donald Trump attacked our elections over and over.

I was the Attorney General back then and despite his bluster and rhetoric, he went 0-43 in court when he fought to make it harder to vote and then tried to overturn Pennsylvanians' votes.

He's now trying to use the same playbook to stoke chaos, but hear me on this: we will again have a free and fair, safe and secure election — and the will of the people will be respected.

Protest vote and abstention: What does it mean and who does it benefit in the US presidential race?

Election Day is approaching in the United States. People who have not voted by mail or in advance can go to the polls on November 5 to elect the next president of the United States.

In addition to voting by mail, early or in person, citizens can express themselves in other ways within the democratic process. This can include casting a blank or spoiled ballot, or abstaining altogether. Likewise, if they don’t like either of the major party candidates, or if they do not wish to vote for any of the options, they can write someone else’s name on the ballot in protest.

Here’s what casting a protest vote or abstaining from voting means.

Trump picked up by garbage truck in Green Bay

Former President Donald Trump used his arrival in Green Bay ahead of his rally in ‘Titletown’ to take a dig at President Joe Biden in the ongoing “garbage” throwing contest by being picked up by a garbage truck at the airport.

In a video call with Voto Latino yesterday Biden criticized a comedian calling Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage” at the Republican candidate’s rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. However, his words have become a weapon for the trump campaign when Biden said: “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” as he was initially quoted as saying.

He tried to clarify his comments today saying on social media: “Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation.”

Trump tells Allentown: "We're going to make it a new golden age"

"I'd like to begin with a very, very simple question: 'Are you better off now than you were four years ago?'. I'm here today with a message of hope for all Americans. We will end inflation, we will stop the invasion of criminals into our country and we will bring back the American dream. Our country will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer and stronger than ever before.

This election is a choice of whether we will have four more years of gross incompetence and failure - the worst administration in the history of our countrty.

Jimmy Carter looks like a brilliant, brilliant president by comparison. We're gonna turn it around and we're gonna turn it around fast. I'm asking you to be excited about the future again.

They've embarrassed us. Kamala has embarrassed us. She doesn't have what it takes. Next Tuesday, you have to stand up and you have to tell Kamala that you've had enough, you're not going to take it anymore, Kamala you're fired, get outta here!"

Kamala Harris tells Harrisburg rally Trump is "unstable" and " obsessed with revenge"

Pennsylvania, let me just say. You know my background, I am not afraid of tough fights - for decades, as a prosecuter and the top law enforcement officer of our biggest state, I won fights against the big banks that were ripping off home owners. Against for-profit colleges that scammed veterans and students. Against predetors who abused women and children, and cartels that trafficked in guns, drugs and human beings. And if you give the chance to fight on your behalf, as president, there is nothing that will stand in my way.

And look, we know how Donald Trump is. This is someone who is not thinking about how to make your life better. This is someone who is unstable, obssessed with revenge, consumed with grievance and out for unchecked power. And look, in less than 90 days, either he or I will be in the Oval Office.

It’s not in the White House: Do you know where the Vice President lives?

The Vice President’s House was designed by Leon Emil Dessez with the original intention of housing the USNO superintendent. Construction of the house, which overlooks Massachusetts Avenue, was completed in 1893. In 1923, the Chief of Naval Operations was so impressed with the facility that he kicked the superintendent out so that he could move in himself, as US government archives explain.

In 1974, Congress agreed to renovate the Naval Observatory House and convert it into the official residence of the vice president. Walter Mondale of the Jimmy Carter administration was the first vice president to move into the observatory residence.

Early voting begins in New York

As of October 30, the Florida Election Lab has tracked 55 million ballots cast. Over 29 million early votes have been cast, and 25.9 million mail-in ballots have been received. Of mail-in ballots, the figure amounts to around 39 percent of the 65.6 million requested by voters across the country.

In 2020, a total of 158,429,631 ballots were cast. The 55 million early and mail-in votes account for a third of the votes cast in 2020, highlighting how many millions more voters will cast a ballot on or before election day.  Among the early vote count by party affiliation, Democrats comprised 39.2 percent, while Republicans made up 36.1 percent. Additionally, 24.7 percent of voters did not report a party affiliation.

AtlasIntel releases swing state projections

AtlasIntel is a polling organization that managed to predict the outcomes of many swing state elections more effectively than traditional pollsters. With less than a week until Election Day and over 53 million ballots already cast, they find Trump ahead by tiny margins in all swing states, minus North Carolina. Trump's lead appears to be the largest in Arizona (+3.5 percent) and Georgia (+3.4 percent), and the organization found that result to be outside of the margin of error, meaning that the former president's lead is real in those states. In the other swing states, the race remains so close that the results fall within the margin of error.
