Elizabeth Warren responds to the election results
Following Vice President Kamala Harris's concession speech, various members of the Democratic Party have begun to voice their reactions to the recent election outcomes. One prominent figure, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who successfully secured re-election, took to the podium to address the unsettling news that her party is poised to lose control of the Senate. Analysts predict that the Republican Party is likely to flip three seats, which will give the party control over the upper chamber of Congress.
If the Democrats are unable to maintain their hold on the House of Representatives, it would pave the way for the Republicans to gain a trifecta—controlling the presidency, the House, and the Senate. This scenario would enable former President Donald Trump and the GOP to more easily implement their legislative agenda.
In her remarks, Senator Warren acknowledged the profound sense of despair and grief that many supporters are experiencing in wake of the election results. However, she also drew inspiration from Vice President Harris's earlier speech, reiterating the sentiment that the struggle for progress and equity must continue despite the setbacks. Warren called on her fellow Democrats to remain resilient and committed to their principles, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.
In a highly anticipated race that captured the nation's attention, Donald Trump has emerged as the 2024 presidential election victor. With a tally of 267 electoral votes, the Republican candidate confidently declared himself the winner in a speech delivered from Florida. In his address, Trump emphasized the importance of national unity, calling on Americans from both sides of the political spectrum to come together for the greater good of the country.
The outcome has left many supporters of his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, in a state of shock and disbelief. Harris had been a strong contender, with her campaign focusing on the key swing states that typically determine the election's outcome. Unfortunately for her, the results show that she is lagging significantly in all seven of these crucial states. While Arizona and Nevada, two states that were projected to be closely contested, have yet to finalize their results, current projections indicate that Harris's path to victory is narrowing. The unanticipated defeat has sparked discussions among political analysts and Harris's camp about what went wrong and how the Democratic Party can regroup moving forward. Read more.
In the wake of the Democratic party's unexpected loss of the presidency, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent who has famously sought the party's nomination on two occasions, didn’t mince words when addressing the leaders of the Harris campaign. Although he had previously created a series of videos backing the vice president, his genuine sentiments about the campaign have now come to light, revealing a deeper critique that cuts through the usual political rhetoric. Kamala Harris walks up to address the crowd to Beyoncé's 'Freedom'
One of the most interesting aspects of the election, which came to light as the results came in, was the pivotal role Latino voters played in delivering the victory to Donald Trump. Although many in this vibrant community traditionally lean Democratic, their support didn’t align with expectations this time. In a surprising twist, Trump’s appeal among Latino voters grew, even in the face of a campaign often criticized for its anti-immigrant rhetoric and comments that many viewed as racially charged. This unexpected shift has become a focal point in understanding the dynamics of this remarkable election. However, the fact that Democrats see Latinos as so closely related to the issue of immigration highlights why they have begun to lose favor with the group.
Kamala Harris is expected to address the crowd gathering at Howard University in around 20 minutes. The vice president has not made any public comments since Donald Trump was projected to win the election, and many supporters are anxiously awaiting her words at this tense moment.

Astead Herndon, NYT politics reporter, breaks down President Biden's role the election
Astead Herndon, a politics reporter for the New York Times, spoke to The Daily about President Biden's role in the Democrats' loss on Tuesday. According to Herndon, Biden's unwillingness to step aside in the 2024 election, despite promising to do so in 2020, made it much more difficult for Democrats to be seen as a party capable of bringing about change. An open primary that would have allowed the party to determine the policies that were appealing to voters earlier in the cycle, left the party with fewer options to imagine and describe another path forward for the country. Many voters lost faith in the party after the Trump-Biden debate in late June, and the vice president was unable to win these voters back. Additionally, as a member of the Biden adminstration who was unwilling to criticize the policies of the president, turned off more voters. The Democrats saw 15 million fewer votes this election than they saw in 2020, and that drop-off helps to explain the outcome.
Former President Donald Trump appears set to win both the popular vote and the electoral college in the upcoming 2024 election, making him the first Republican since 2004 to do so. As Trump's victory becomes clear, Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a concession speech, marking a significant moment in the political landscape. Read more for details on when the VP will address the country.
Nevada and Arizona remain the only swings states to be called
In Arizona and Nevada, the suspense continues into Wednesday as the vote count unfolds. However, neither state is poised to hand Vice President Kamala Harris a win. With 63 percent of the votes tallied, Donald Trump is currently leading Harris by 4.7 percent. Meanwhile, in Nevada, as the final 17 percent of votes are being processed, Trump maintains a lead of 5.1 percent.
Across the other five pivotal swing states, Trump has already claimed victory and is celebrating his success. As the counting draws to a close, it seems increasingly likely that Trump will not only secure the electoral college but also come out on top in the popular vote.

In the United States, the president is not directly elected by the overall number of votes across the country; known as the ‘popular vote’. After Americans cast their ballots, it is the Electoral College that decides who takes office, and this does not necessarily reflect the popular vote in US presidential elections.
However, getting the majority of the popular vote to get elected can really push the mandate claim.
