USA 2022 primary election: which states have voted?
The primary election season in the United States is coming to an end, which states have yet to vote?
Between 1 March and 13 September, voters will take to the polls in state primaries which will determine the candidates that make it to the General Election Ballot in November.
When does each state host its primaries?
In 2022, Texas was the first is the first state to host its primary on 1 March.
All eyes are on the Texas gubernatorial race where incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott will face Democratic rising star Beto O’Rourke, who previously served in the US House of Representatives. This race has become increasingly competitive since the devastating and tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School that left nineteen children and two teachers dead.
A new poll released on 15 June by Quinnipiac University found that the race is tightening. In December, fifty-two percent of voters favored Governor Abbott, but as of early June his lead has fallen by five points to forty-seven percent. When voters were asked about their opinion of Abbott, only forty-six percent they approved of the way he is governing. Around forty-two percent of voters said they would vote for Beto O’Rourke in November, up from thirty-seven in December. While, support has increased, his favorability sits at thirty-eight percent, lower than Abbott’s.
Another major race that has captured the attention of the country is the Senate election in Pennsylvania. Day-time TV doctor, Dr. Mehmet Öz has secured the Republican nomination as well as an endorsement from former-President Donald Trump. For the Democrats, current Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, John Fetterman won his primary. The two candidates will face off in November, and so far, Fettermen holds a considerably lead of at least nine points by some polls.

The primary election season will come to an end in mid-September. More than half of the states have already determined who will face off in November.

Do any states not hold a primary election?
Yes. Louisiana does not hold a primary election. Instead, all candidates are presented on the ballot in November, meaning that anyone of any party can vote for whichever candidate they prefer.
