Walmart, Costco and other big retailers are limiting the number of eggs you can buy: Here’s the limit in each store
With the price of a dozen eggs having doubled in one year and continuing to rise, retailers are taking measures.

With the price of a dozen eggs more expensive than ever in the United States, and with the product in short supply, several national grocery stores have placed a limit how many boxes you can purchase.
Due to shortages, consumers will only be able to purchase a limited number of eggs at Aldi, Kroger, Trader Joe’s and Walmart until further notice.

Retailers limit egg purchases
Trader Joe’s has capped purchases to one-dozen carton per customer per day. “We hope these limits will help to ensure that as many of our customers who need eggs are able to purchase them when they visit Trader Joe’s,” the company explained in a statement, as reported by The Associated Press.
Walmart is limiting bulk purchases with customers able to buy a maximum of two 60-count Cage Free large white egg cartons. “Although supply is very tight, we’re working with suppliers to try and help meet customer demand, while striving to keep prices as low as possible,” a company statement read.
Costco has followed suit, limiting customers to three packages of eggs, which the retailer sells in two-dozen or four-dozen cartons.
Sam’s Club confirmed a limit of two packages per customer. Kroger meanwhile has not imposed a nationwide cap on eggs, but some local stores are asking customers to limit purchases to two dozen at a time.

How much has the price of eggs increased?
The price of a dozen eggs has increased by 22.03% ($1.28 per box) since the beginning of 2025. Eggs have never been so expensive, reaching an all time high of $7.09 per dozen in some states in January 2025.
The US Department of Agriculture expects egg prices to continue to rise throughout the year as a consequence of the ongoing bird flu outbreak - one of the chief catalysts driving ‘eggflation’.
