Former President Donald Trump’s historic criminal trial for allegedly falsifying business records to hide a hush-money payoff to an adult film star has begun.

He has been charged with 34 counts of felony, and is the first president in U.S. history to be criminally indicted. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all the accusations.

The selection procedure for 12 members of the jury and six alternates has started. New York Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing the case, has already excused more than half of the first group of potential jurors, who indicated that they could not be fair and impartial in the case, or gave other reasons for not being able to serve.

Potential jurors are required to orally respond to 42 questions that Judge Merchan had previously chosen.

What are the 42 questions that possible jurors must answer in the Trump hush money trial?

The prospective jurors will not be asked about their political affiliations, nor whom they have voted for in the past. They will also not be asked for whom they intend to vote in November. The answers to these will be apparent when they answer the other questions.

There are inquiries referring to involvement in a Trump presidential campaign or his presidential administration.

The possible members of the jury will be questioned about which social media platforms they use, as well as the media outlets from which they consume news.

They are also directly asked if they consider themselves a supporter of or belong to white supremacist and extremist groups including the QANon movement, Proud Boys, and Oathkeepers.

Another aspect of the questionnaire refers to whether the potential juror has read any of the books that the former president has written, or those that have been written about him.

You can read all 42 questions on the New York State courts website.
