The United States government has several nutrition programs. One of the largest is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, which provides support to more than forty million people.

SNAP is a federal program that is administered in coordination with state governments to provide benefits to low-income families to buy food through an electronic benefits transfer card (EBT), which works like a debit card in certain establishments.

SNAP benefits: how much is sent each month this 2023?

SNAP benefits are awarded in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. However, the amounts awarded are different depending on whether or not the recipient lives in the 48 contiguous states and Washington DC versus Hawaii or Alaska.

If you reside in Hawaii or Alaska, the amount of financial assistance you receive will depend on the size of your household, other sources of income, and certain eligibility criteria. The maximum amount of assistance changes annually and takes effect on October 1st. The increase in payments for 2023 has already been implemented and will continue until the end of the year.

These are the maximum amounts awarded in the 48 contiguous United States, including the country’s capital, depending on the number of family members:

  • 1 member: $281
  • 2 members: $516
  • 3 members: $740
  • 4 members: $939
  • 5 members: $1,116
  • 6 members: $1,339
  • 7 members: $1,480
  • 8 members: $1,691
  • Additional member: +$211

For recipients living in Alaska, the amount distributed in SNAP benefits depends on whether the household lives in a rural or urban area. The average amount per person is $166. On the other hand, in Hawaii, the SNAP amounts are based on the income of the household.

SNAP benefits: What are the payment dates in June 2023 in each state?

While all state agencies distribute SNAP benefits by loading value onto EBT cards the dates vary from state to state. Some states often send money in batches based on recipients’ names or Social Security numbers.

With just a few days left in the month, all payments have been made.
