How much is the Powerball jackpot now?

For Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, the jackpot stood at an estimated $1.25 billion, with a cash option of $572.1 million. As no tickets scooped the grand prize, however, the total has again rolled over - and is now the fifth-largest in the lottery’s history.

The new, $1.5bn jackpot will come with a $686.5 million cash option, organizers say.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

The next Powerball drawing is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Dec. 20.

Winners of the grand prize have two options:

• An annuity payment spread over 30 annual instalments that grow each year.

• A lump-sum cash option, which is smaller but paid all at once.

While the jackpot often captures the headlines, there are also numerous smaller prizes. Secondary prizes range from $4 to $1 million or more, depending on how many of the winning numbers they matched. Players who add the Power Play option can multiply the size of non-jackpot prizes.
