What are the unemployment rates in the major states? Florida, Texas, NY, California...

The latest figures from the Labor Department indicate that unemployment in the US has gone down to 3.5%, just above the lowest level since late 1969.

This week, the Department of Labor shared the employment figures for the month of July. According to the report, total non-farm payroll employment increased by 187,000 last month. This is below the projection of 200,000 jobs.

Job creation occurred in the health care, social care, financial activities and wholesale trade sectors.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US unemployment rate was little changed, falling to 3.5%. The national unemployment rate has ranged from 3.4% and 3.7% since March 2022, but what are the numbers for the main states of the country?

What are the unemployment rates in the major states? Florida, Texas, NY, California...

Regarding unemployment data by state, the most recent information from the BLS corresponds to the month of June. This is the job situation in the main states of the country.

California

California registered an unemployment rate of 4.6%, the third highest in the entire country, after the state of Nevada and the District of Columbia.

The Golden State saw an increase since the beginning of the year: in January, the unemployment rate was 4.2%.

Florida

Florida registered an unemployment rate of 2.6% in June, one of the lowest in the country. The state has remained constant as far as this indicator is concerned, posting a rate of 2.6% since January.

New York

According to the BLS, the unemployment rate in New York was 3.9% in June. Although still above the federal unemployment rate, the state has seen this indicator drop since the beginning of the year. In January, the rate was 4.2%.

Texas

In June, Texas had an unemployment rate of 4.1%, the fifth highest in the country, behind only Nevada, the District of Columbia, California and Delaware. Like California, this state has seen an increase in this indicator, since in January it was 3.9%.

According to BLS data for June, these are the states with the highest unemployment rates in the country:

  • Nevada: 5.4%
  • District of Columbia: 5.1%
  • California: 4.6%
  • Delaware: 4.2%
  • Texas: 4.1%

On the other end of the scale, these are the states with the lowest unemployment rates in the US:

  • New Hampshire: 1.8%
  • South Dakota: 1.8%
  • Nebraska: 1.9%
  • Vermont: 1.9%
  • Maryland: 2.0%
  • North Dakota: 2.0%
