What did Bill Maher say about Trevor Noah and John Oliver winning more Emmy Awards?
Maher made himself sound quite bitter as his competitors won more Emmys at this year’s award ceremony.
This year’s Emmy Awards have drawn to a close but the conversation surrounding them still continues. Bill Maher, nominated 41 times over the years, was interviewed by Chris Cuomo where his host asked Maher why he was yet to win an award.
“Looking at just a sheer metric of ratings, OK? You crush John Oliver regularly. Trevor Noah’s, you crush his numbers. You do not get nominated the way they do for Emmys,” Cuomo said, before he asked, “Why do you think you don’t get the shine that they do?”
“I tell the truth,” Maher retorted. “I don’t perform for just one-half of the country and say the things that will make them applaud, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”
He seems to be referring to the liberal focus of his opponents shows. Maher himself used to be a Democrat voter but in recent years has taken aim at the Democrat establishment and people on the left. While taking aim at multiple politicans, the invitations onto his show of members of the alt-right, such as Milo Yiannopoulos, Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson onto Real Time, Bill Maher’s show.
“If I banned everybody from my show who I thought was colossally wrong, I would be talking to myself,” he said during his infamous February 2017 interview with Yiannopoulos. The British right-wing provocateur went on to express sympathy for child abusers and lost his job and book deal.
Maher described the most recent Tokyo Olympics as the “woke Olympics” had “cancelled” creatives surrouding comments by some that the inclusion of surfing was co-opting tradition. Discussions with the words “woke” and “cancelled” are now being used by Vladimir Putin, some company for Maher to have.
