What did Michelle Obama say about Donald Trump at the DNC?

Former First Lady Michelle Obama gave a show-stopping address at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Tuesday night.

Her and former President Barack Obama were the two headline speakers on Tuesday and they gave a glowing endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. In her speech, Michelle Obama took aim at the GOP candidate.

“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us,” she told a rapturous Chicago crowd. “His limited and narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who also happened to be Black.”

She followed that up with a joke at the former President’s expense, referencing his infamous ‘Black jobs’ remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) annual convention.

“By the way — Who’s going to tell him that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those “Black jobs?’” she asked.

With Harris now confirmed as the Democratic nomination for the 2024 presidential election, this week’s convention is an exercise in rally support and raising money.

Michelle Obama said of the Vice President: “Only Kamala Harris truly understands the unseen labor and unwavering commitment that has always made America great.”

She went on to call on those in the room to offer their support to the Democratic ticket, which looks reinvigorated since President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election. Harris and running mate Tim Walz have little time to build a national campaign and Michelle Obama emphasised the importance of their support.

“So we cannot afford for anyone to sit on their hands and wait to be called upon… don’t complain if no one from the campaign has specifically reached out to ask for your support… there is simply no time for that kind of foolishness.”
