Ford announces recall of more than 741,000 vehicles in the United States: Full list of affected models

A defect in the parking system that increases the risk of a crash has led Ford to issue a safety recall affecting an estimated 741,000 vehicles across multiple models.

According to a recall notice released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the transmission’s parking mechanism may engage while the vehicle is moving, potentially damaging the parking system.

The notice warns that this damage could allow the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Full list of Ford models included in the recall

A total of 741,195 vehicles in the United States are affected by this recall. The impacted models include:

  • 2018-2021 Ford Expedition
  • 2020-2021 Ford Explorer
  • 2021 Ford F-150
  • 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator

What owners of affected vehicles should do

Even if you own one of the models listed above, your vehicle may not be included in the recall.

To find out whether your vehicle is affected, visit Ford’s website or mobile app, or check the NHTSA recall portal. You’ll need to enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or your license plate information.

A VIN is a unique 17-character identification number. It is typically located on the dashboard near the base of the windshield on the driver’s side. You’ll also need your VIN when contacting a dealership to schedule a repair.

According to the NHTSA recall notice, dealers will resolve the issue by updating the powertrain control module software. They will also inspect the transmission and replace any damaged components at no cost to owners.

Once a repair becomes available, affected owners will be notified by mail. Interim notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 3, 2026, informing owners about the issue. A second round of letters will be sent once the remedy is available, which is currently expected in April 2027.

For more information, vehicle owners can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s recall number for this campaign is 26S48.
