What does 6-7 mean? Why are young people using this number and shouting six-seven
Oh no, here we go again: trying to understand the modern day youth.

Strap yourself in, we’ve got more nonsense from the youth. It was a lot easier when we were using sticks as lightsabers and trading Pokémon cards, right? Even that is impossible nowadays.
The young ones have already moved on from skibidi toilet, which has very much been left in the void of the 2024 internet scene. Now, it’s all about 6-7. I’m sure you’ve heard it, a simple repetition of the two numbers with a little dance that draws laughter for no apparent reason.
Given the confusion from anyone over 14-years-old, I went investigating...
At first, I believed it was a reference to Lil Wayne’s 6-foot-7-foot song, but I should be so lucky. Fortunately or unfortunately, it’s merely more internet nonsense.
What is 6-7? Why are kids saying it and doing the dance?
Perhaps entirely predictably, the words 6-7 don’t mean anything: it’s just internet gubbins that has caught a strong headwind and is now being copied the world over.
The craze appears to come from the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla (Jemille Edwards), a rapper from Philadelphia. Mr Edwards raps the following: “...I know he dyin’ (oh my, oh my God) 6-7, I just bipped right on the highway (Bip, bip)” as the beat drops, creating a catchy line that taken off.
The simple 6-7 catchphrase (and accompanying dance) shot into the Gen Alpha hive mind thanks to its propagation on social media, which seemingly began with a kid shouting it at a basketball game as he performed the ‘dance’ of lifting his upturned palms up and down like he’s testing the weight of two bags of jellied eels. Nowadays, that’s all you need.
As for the meaning, even Skrilla himself refused to add meaning to the phrase, saying “I never put an actual meaning on it and I still would not want to.” Many other things, such as police code and house numbers have been suggested, but we shall take the artist’s word.
This is extremely frustrating to watch from some Oregon State fans. Ridiculous behavior, and extremely unfair to a young, professional reporter trying to grow her career.

And before I go, let’s be clear: the video above chosen to show off the 6-7 craze is not harmless child nonsense, it’s an attention-seeking adolescent after his first beer who is being a public disturbance to someone trying to do their job. It must also be said that the reporter holds it together superbly well; that’s why she’s there smiling and I’m here, punching angry holes into my keyboard.
