Hillary Clinton is set to appear on the popular talk show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Clinton is known for her long-standing role in American politics, and she has had jobs of varying importance.

Here’s a run-down of every position Clinton has held in office and what she’s been up to since she lost the 2016 US Presidential Elections.

When did Hillary meet Bill Clinton?

Born Hillary Diane Rodham, she met Bill Clinton for the first time in 1971 when they were at Yale Law School together, with Hillary having previously majored in political science in college. According to the Clinton House Museum website, “Bill could not stop staring at Hillary, she walked over to him and introduced herself”.

A year after the two met and formed a formidable partnership both personally and politically, Bill and Hillary campaigned together for Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern. McGovern lost the 1972 Presidential Election to Richard Nixon.

The couple become ‘The Clintons’: political career begins

While Hillary took up a teaching position at the University of Arkansas School of Law, Bill ran for the United States House of Representatives against John Paul Hammerschmidt. Bill lost the election but captured 48.2% of the vote. The following year, in 1975, Bill and Hillary marry.

Bill won the Presidential election in 1993, making Hillary Clinton First lady of the United States, a role she held until 2001, but not before she won election to the United States Senate from New York on November 7.

Obama’s Secretary of State

She was reelected in 2006 and a year later decided to run for President, dropping out to eventual winner, Barack Obama. Clinton was later confirmed as Secretary of State by President Obama and served in the role until 2013.

It was in 2016 when Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president, becoming the first woman to be nominated by a national political party. She won the nationwide popular vote by almost 3 million but lost to Donald Trump in the electoral college tally.

Nowadays, both Bill and Hillary run the Clinton Foundation, which works, according to the website, “on the simple belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed, everyone has a responsibility to act, and we all do better when we work together”.
