In 2015 he landed a lucrative deal with publishers Hodder & Stoughton to author a book entitled Shakespeare: The Riddle of Genius. He struck a deal for a reported £500,000 seven years ago but has repeatedly pushed back the publishing date.

When he was elected as PM in 2019 he said that he “won’t be able to rapidly complete a book on Shakespeare that I have in preparation. I honestly say that will grieve me.”

Now that he will soon leave office, he may finally have the time to write the biography and likely pen a book on his time as Prime Minister.
