Del Toro began his career in film as a special effects makeup artist and eventually worked his way up to directing his first feature film, ‘Cronos,’ in 1993. He gained international recognition for his 2001 film ‘The Devil’s Backbone,’ which was widely acclaimed for its blending of horror and political themes.

In 2006, del Toro directed the highly successful ‘Pan’s Labyrinth,’ which won three Academy Awards, including Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Makeup. The film was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film.

Del Toro continued to gain critical acclaim for his work, directing films such as ‘Hellboy’ in 2004, ‘Pacific Rim’ in 2013.
