A slightly random debate is taking place on Thursday night as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will face off with his Californian counterpart Gavin Newsom dubbed “The Great Red vs. Blue State Debate”.

While Newsom has been touted as a future presidential candidate, DeSantis has already put himself forward for the election in 2024. His polling was initially strong and he was seen as a viable challenger to front-runnner Donald Trump, but has since slipped down in support from 35% to 13% as of 29 November.

Nikki Haley is breathing down his neck and at this stage it looks like Trump’s opponent will be one of those two.

He has been losing political ground, but that doesn’t mean DeSantis has been losing out financially. In fact, he is much richer than he was in 2021.

What is Ron DeSantis’ net worth?

DeSantis’ worth was estimated to be $300,000 in 2021. Since then he signed a book deal that makes the majority of his now $1.4 million wealth.

Forbes’ latest assessment of DeSantis’ income shows this book deal being worth $1.2 million. The only equity he has is an oil fund that could be worth up to $50,000. The rest of the money is made up of his pension. This information can be found in his 2022 state disclosure. Another one will be filed soon for 2023 which will give the clearest picture on his finances.

This is significantly lower than the other candidates he is facing off against such as Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Nikki Haley.

What jobs did he have before becoming a politician?

DeSantis is a veteran of the Navy. After leaving the military, DeSantis worked as an advisor to the Navy SEAL commander in support of SEAL missions. It has been alleged that DeSantis was involved in torture techniques while stationed at Guantanamo Bay.

Subsequently, he served as an Assistant Attorney in the Middle District of Florida. He published his first book in that time before running for Congress in 2012.
