What is the Google Photos feature that will help you hide people you want to forget?

Google Photos is preparing a new feature that will allow you to edit out the faces of people you don’t want to see in pictures appearing in your ‘Memories.’

Google Photos, the image storage service from the tech giant, helps us remember moments we captured in pictures through the “Memories” feature, which pulls out highlights from our photo albums.

However, seeing old photographs doesn’t necessarily bring back good memories, especially if looking at the face of a particular person evokes negative emotions.

Google Photos is offering a solution to this by developing a new feature that will allow us to stop seeing people we want to forget. It’s a form of manual editing that we can choose for a specific face, so we won’t have to delete the whole image if we don’t want to. For now, this will only affect the Memories feature that the application brings up on a recurring basis to highlight past events.

This information comes via Android Authority, who have been data mining the latest version of the Google Photos APK. Recent changes to the code for this app have revealed hints that a new feature may be coming soon that has to do with the voluntary editing of specific faces in Google Photos Memories.

“Memories” repeatedly reminds us of important events uploaded to the service, both our own and those of our contacts. Given the nature of human relationships, this inevitably brings up images that might include people we no longer want to see.

To correct this situation to a degree, the company has implemented this new feature that consists of hiding specific faces, so we will not have to delete entire images in our desire to forget certain people in our past.

Before this development, there was only the option to “show less” of a specific person in Google Photos Memories. After this modification, an option is added that allows you to hide the face in question, effectively removing the face of this individual from the images that Google Photos Memories shows you.

No date set for Google Photos Memories’ new face-erasing feature

It has not yet been determined when this feature will be rolled out for general public use, or if it will be released at all. This Google Photos Memories feature exists, but the company might simply never implement it.

If it does become available to the public in the future, it would give us another way of cutting off painful parts of our past, on top of blocking phone numbers, unfollowing social media accounts, and deleting images.
