Update:

Tropical Storm Erin continues to strengthen. According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm is now moving westward at around 17 mph, with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph.

“Tropical Storm #Erin Advisory 13: Erin strengthening while moving westward. Forecast to become a hurricane by tomorrow,” the NHC warned.

Erin’s winds are expected to exceed 74 mph in the coming days, becoming the first hurricane of the Atlantic season starting Friday, after Andrea, Barry, Chantal, and Dexter all failed to reach this category.

US cities that could be affected by Hurricane Erin

For now, meteorologists assure that there is no risk of a direct impact on the US East Coast. However, they warn of possible indirect effects in the area due to the system’s path, such as “dangerous rip currents” throughout the Atlantic.

Therefore, residents and visitors of East Coast cities are urged to remain alert to NHC updates as the storm moves westward.

Meteorologist Lisette González of NEXT Weather reports: “The storm has maximum sustained winds near 50 mph. It is expected to intensify into a Category One hurricane on Friday. At that time, it will be the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The forecast cone shows Erin moving into the Atlantic as a Major Hurricane on Tuesday Morning. On this forecast track, it would move towards Bermuda by mid to late next week,” she posted on her Instagram account.
