The recent surge in searches for $8,700 IRS stimulus checks has led to widespread confusion and misinformation.

Yahoo! News called attention to outlets, Marca and Times Now, that spread stories about an $8,700 tax credit that supposedly millions could claim from the IRS.

Despite the rumors, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has confirmed that no such checks are being issued.

The IRS has consistently denied rumors of a fourth stimulus check, and there is no evidence to support the claim that the IRS is distributing these payments. The organisaiton pointed to a July 2023 press release warning about scams involving text messages and emails that exploit the real economic payments made in 2020 and 2021.

The release highlighted that although the stimulus payments ended long ago, related schemes have evolved and changed as scammers look for new ways to adjust their messages to deceive people.
