Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has shared his thoughts on which product will “gradually replace” smartphones after smart watches failed to do the job.

In 2012, the first fully functional smart watches went on sale. This new product was intended to completely overthrow smartphones, incorporating their functions but with a smaller size and discreet design.

However, 12 years later smart watches have still not managed to dethrone mobile phones, although they have become a useful accessory. That is what they have remained: a complementary product to the smartphone.

What will replace smart phones in a few years, according to Mark Zuckerberg?

Two years ago, Meta introduced Ray-Ban Stories, a collaboration with the famous eyewear brand to introduce a technologically advanced product with an elegant design. With a five-megapixel camera, two speakers and three microphones, they were set to take the technological accessories market by storm, but with a view to continuing to improve the product.

Since this year, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have been on sale. They are an evolution of the previous version with a better camera, better microphones and, above all, more memory, one of the pending issues of this product. With this product already on the market, Zuckerberg has made a statement predicting that “smart glasses will become the next great computing platform.

‘They will replace phones in 2030′

The tech entrepreneur says his glasses will be more important in the future than smartphones. He compares the situation to what happened in the past with the coexistence between computers and mobile phones and how little by little phones began to add computer-specific functions, to combine them all in a single device.

“[Smart glasses] will gradually replace phones by 2030, similar to how mobile devices overtook computers without completely replacing them,” Zuckerberg said.
