When are CalFresh benefits sent out in May 2026? The complete California SNAP payment schedule
California’s Department of Social Services has begun sending out May’s CalFresh benefits across the state. Check out when payments are arriving.
Each month, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) sends out payments to around 5.5 million Californians, helping low-income families to buy food.
Although the scheme is federally financed through the Department of Agriculture (USDA), the distribution of funds is run at state level. In California, SNAP payments are handled by the Golden State’s Department of Social Services (CDSS) through the CalFresh program.
The funds allotted to each beneficiary are loaded on to an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which works like a debit card and can be used at approved grocery stores and retailers.
When are SNAP benefits paid in California in May 2026?
SNAP benefits in California are paid between the first and tenth calendar day of the month. The exact date is decided by the final digit of a claimant’s county case number.
For example, if the last digit is a ‘1’, the payments will go out on the first of the month. If it is a ‘2’ then they will go out on the second of the month, and so on.
Maximum SNAP benefits by household size in California
