As July approaches, find out the SSA’s payment dates for Social Security benefits and the Supplemental Security Income scheme.
When are Social Security and SSI benefits paid out in July 2026? The complete payment schedule
With its June payment schedule now complete, the U.S.’s Social Security Administration (SSA) is next week set to begin issuing benefits for July.
Read on for details on next month’s distribution timeline for the following SSA programs:
- Social Security (retirement, disability and survivor benefits)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Who does the Social Security Admin pay first in July 2026?
- SSI beneficiaries: July 1
On Wednesday, July 1, the SSA is due to send out SSI payments to the scheme’s 7.3 million beneficiaries.
A benefit for certain low-income, low-resource individuals, SSI is administered by the SSA, but differs from Social Security as it is needs-based. Eligibility is not dependent on a claimant’s work record.
When does July’s three-Wednesdays Social Security cycle kick in?
Of the U.S.’s 71.2 million recipients of Social Security benefits, many are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their date of birth.
In July, this three-Wednesdays cycle is as follows:
- Beneficiaries born on 1st-10th of any month: paid on Wednesday, July 8
- Beneficiaries born on 11th-20th of any month: paid on Wednesday, July 15
- Beneficiaries born on 21st-31st of any month: paid on Wednesday, July 22
NB: If you claim Social Security benefits based on someone else’s employment history, the SSA refers to the other person’s birthday.
What other payment runs are on the July 2026 schedule?
- July 2: Some long-term Social Security recipients
On Thursday, July 2, the SSA is to distribute next month’s Social Security benefits to claimants who began receiving their payments before May 1997.
- July 2: Social Security beneficiaries who also get SSI
Next Thursday is also July’s Social Security payment date for recipients who combine the program with SSI.
Dual and pre-May ‘97 recipients typically get their Social Security benefits on the third of the month, but are being paid early because July 3 is a federal holiday.
- July 31: August’s SSI benefits
On Friday, July 31, recipients of SSI will get their August benefits a day early. This is because their typical payment date, August 1, falls on a weekend day.
How much are monthly Social Security and SSI benefits?
- Social Security retirement pay: $2,028.00/month
- Social Security disability pay: $1,493.25/month
- Social Security survivor pay: $1,626.59/month
- SSI benefits: $738.13/month
(Average monthly benefit, per stats shared by the SSA.)
How does the Social Security Admin pay out benefits?
- Monthly payments can be transferred into a recipient’s bank account by direct deposit
- Money can be paid onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements
