This year, the Democratic Party will host its convention in Chicago starting on the 19th of August and running through the 22nd.

Kamala Harris has already secured the party’s nomination, making the convention more ceremonial than anything else. Shortly after President Joe Biden announced that he would drop out of the race, he quickly threw his support behind his vice president. Many Democratic officials and party leaders followed suit, making the likelihood of a contested convention less likely. When the fundraising numbers for Harris were announced in the days following her announcement that she would seek the nomination, no other contenders came forward.

What do the polls say?

Since Vice President Kamala Harris announced that Governor Tim Walz would be joining her at the top of the Democratic ticket, her poll numbers have improved. However, more data is needed on how the races stand in states like Arizona and Georgia, where polls remain out of date.

The Independent Center’s most recent polls in the battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which surveyed voters between August 8th and 11th, found that Harris led by an average of seven points across the three states.

Who will speak at the convention?
