US NEWS

When will my SNAP benefits arrive in May?

A look at when SNAP beneficiaries will receive their benefit in May and how the schedule is determined in each state.

SNAP: Payment schedule and amounts for November 2023

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formally known as food stamps, is one of the largest social programs in the United States, benefiting over forty million people.

While the program is federally supported, it is administered by the states, meaning the distribution of benefits follows different schedules across the country. Only a few states distribute benefits to all beneficiaries on the first of the month; these include Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, and Vermont. In states with small populations, the overall lift in distributing SNAP benefits is much lighter than in larger states where millions of families see their Electronic Benefits Card reloaded monthly.

However, most states will begin their distribution effort on the first of the month. Here is a look at when beneficiaries can expect to receive their SNAP benefits in May 2024.
