When will the next minimum wage increase be in Florida?

A ballot initiative in 2020 started Florida raising its minimum wage every year until it reaches $15 per hour. Thereafter, it will increase with inflation.

This year, the minimum wage in Florida recorded its third increase of $1 dollar since, in November 2020, the state’s voters approved an amendment to the state constitutional so that the base salary would increase over time to give the state’s lowest paid employees more purchasing power to meet the rising cost of living. Meanwhile the national minimum wage has remained unchanged at $7.25 since 2009.

In 2021, the minimum wage in the ‘Sunshine State’ increased to $10, while the following year it increased to $11.

This year, on September 30, the standard minimum hourly wage increased to $12 per hour. For tipped employees, the minimum wage increased from $7.98 per hour to $8.98 per hour. However, there are more increases scheduled.

When will the next minimum wage increase be in Florida?

Thanks to Amendment 2, the minimum wage in Florida will increase annually until it reaches $15 per hour in 2026.

The amendment establishes regular increases of $1 through 2026, so by September 2024, the standard minimum wage will rise to $13 and $9.98 for tipped employees.

By 2025, the minimum wage in the state will be $14 and $10.98 for tipped employees, while in 2026, the wage will finally reach $15 per hour and $11.98 for tipped employees.
