Today, the SSA sends out payments to beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997. Typically, the Social Security Administration sends out these benefits on the third day of each month, but when it falls on a weekend, payments are made early.

August 3 is a Saturday, so payments are being moved up to this Friday. Previously, on Thursday, August 1, the SSA sent out payments to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients.

Payments are sent via direct deposit for those beneficiaries who shared a bank account with the SSA or via mail in paper checks, which take a few more days to arrive.

In addition to the two payments already sent, the remaining Social Security checks will be sent on the following Wednesdays, depending on the beneficiaries’ date of birth.

SSI benefits are sent on the first day of each month. However, if the first day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, payments are sent in advance to the first business day before. This results in two payments in one month.

  • Thursday, August 1: SSI recipients
  • Friday, August 2: Recipients who began receiving payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday, August 14: Recipients with birth dates between 1 and 10
  • Wednesday, August 21: Recipients with birth dates between 11 and 20
  • Wednesday, August 28: Recipients with birth dates between 21 and 31
  • Friday, August 30: SSI recipients (September payment)

Because September 1st is a Sunday, the payment for that month is sent early and will be sent from Friday, August 30th. In September, SSI beneficiaries will no longer receive money, since it is sent from August. The next payment would not be until October 1st. Here is the complete payment schedule for August:
