Andy Beshear is one of the youngest on the list of potential vice presidential candidates for the Democratic Party. Here’s more on the Kentucky governor.
Vice President Kamala Harris has obtained the endorsement of prominent Democratic leaders to be the party’s presidential candidate for the November elections, and now the question of who her running mate will be has taken center stage.
One of the names on the list is that of Andy Beshear, who is on his second term as governor of Kentucky. Winning twice in a known Republican stronghold indicates he is able to generate support from a wide spectrum of voters.

Beshear was born in 1977 in Louisville, Kentucky to Jane Beshear and Steve Beshear, who also served as Kentucky governor from 2007 to 2015.
The 46-year-old governor earned his Bachelor of Arts at Vanderbilt University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Andy Beshear’s law and political career
After graduating from law school, he worked for White & Case, the firm where his father also began his legal career. A few years later, he worked for Stites & Harbison where he specialized in commercial litigation. His father was a partner in this law firm.
Beshear started his political career by running unopposed for Attorney General of Kentucky in 2015, winning the post by around 2,000 votes.
His tenure was marked by efforts to fight opioid addiction by filing several lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies for their alleged role in the opioid crisis.

Andy Beshear runs for governor
In 2019, Beshear ran for governor against incumbent Matt Bevin, which he won by a slim margin.
He ran for re-election in 2023 against Republican candidate Daniel Cameron and won a second term by a much wider margin of 52.53% to 47.46%.
Beshear is known for leading Kentucky through the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple natural disasters in the state, as well his ability to work with Republican lawmakers.
The latest tax records put his adjusted annual gross annual income at $194,094, which includes his $152,181 salary as governor and stock dividends. His net worth has not been made available to the public.

The Kentucky governor is married to Britainy Beshear, with whom he shares two children, Will and Lila.
