Who is Marcello Hernandez, one of the new faces on Saturday Night Live?

NBC’s long-running comedy sketch program SNL is refreshing their line-up with four new faces for the forty-eighth season starting in October.

Saturday Night Live’s season 48 will kick off on 1 October with four fresh faces joining the cast including Miami-based comedian Marcello Hernandez. He’ll become the fourth Latino to form a part of the cast of the nearly five-decade old show.

He’ll be joined by Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker. Not returning to NBC’s long-running comedy sketch program are Aristotle Athari, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney and Melissa Villaseñor. So what do we know about Hernandez?

The twenty-five year old Cuban/Dominican comedian started doing stand-up comedy in 2016 according to his bio. Tim Dillon, Jim Breuer, Mark Viera are among the headliners he has opened for as well as the late great Gilbert Gottfried. He has appeared on Telemundo’s Acceso Total and NBC’s 6 in the Mix.

In 2020 he became a host, and creative director for Only in Dade’s Instagram which has a following approaching one million. There he has interviewed celebrities like Floyd Mayweather, Nicky Jam, Cuba Gooding Jr and Ray J to name a few.

This year is turning out to be a good year for the up-and-coming comedian. Along with joining the cast of Saturday Night Live, he was selected to be in ‘Just For Laughs: New Face of Comedy’.

Who are the other new SNL cast members?

Another of the new faces for Season 48 will be the shows first openly nonbinary member. Molly Kearney is an actor and comedian who most recently appeared on Amazon Prime’s ‘A League of Their Own’. They have also been in Disney+’s ‘The Mighty Ducks’ and Comedy Central’s ‘Up Next’ showcase in 2019.

Los Angeles based comedian Michael Longfellow was one of eight comedians chosen for the inaugural ‘Netflix Introducing...’ He was also on NBC’s ‘Bring the Funny’.

Devon Walker has written for Freeform’s ‘Everything’s Trash’ as well as Netflix’s ‘Big Mouth’ and appeared on Comedy Central’s ‘Ayo and Rachel are Single’ in 2020.

Speaking backstage at the Emmy Awards this fall, where Saturday Night Live took home the trophy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, creator Lorne Michaels said that “This will be transition year,” speaking to Deadline. “Change years are always difficult but always exciting,” he continued. “There are new people. There are four new people, at least for now.”
