¿Quién es Rodrigo Imaz Alarcón, el hijo de Claudia Sheinbaum, y a qué se dedica?

Now that Claudia Sheinbaum has become Mexico’s first female president, even more attention has turned to her and her family. Here’s what we know about Rodrigo Imaz Alarcón, his background, and the nature of his relationship with Sheinbaum.

It’s important to note that Rodrigo is actually the son of Sheinbaum’s ex-husband, Carlos Imaz Gispert, and his first wife, Sandra Alarcón. The couple separated when Rodrigo was very young, and after Sheinbaum married Imaz Gispert in 1987, she raised Rodrigo as her own.

Even after Sheinbaum and Imaz Gispert divorced in 2016, following nearly 30 years of marriage, the bond between Claudia and Rodrigo has remained close and affectionate. She continues to regard him as her son and their relationship grew even stronger when Claudia learned that she would become a grandmother.

Rodrigo Imaz Alarcón almost became a professional soccer player

Rodrigo studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and later earned a master’s degree in Artistic Practice in Valencia, Spain, graduating with honors. He has also participated in prestigious scholarship programs for international studies, including those offered by the Jumex Foundation and Mexico’s National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA). His academic journey also included time at the University Center for Cinematographic Studies (CUEC-UNAM).

While his passion for soccer initially seemed like just a hobby, Rodrigo managed to integrate his soccer skills into his work as an artist. This can be seen in his recent installation, “Balón ponchado” (“Punctured Ball”), which was exhibited in 2002 in the courtyard of the Palacio de Autonomía at UNAM.

Rodrigo had to step away from soccer after sustaining an injury, which led him to focus his energy on the arts.
