The Social Security Administration sends payments each month to retirees, survivors, and beneficiaries of the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. The agency continues to send payments for the month of April.

It already sent out the Supplemental Security Income payment for this month, as well as those for beneficiaries who began receiving their retirement payments before May 1997.

Payments are sent on specific dates, which have been established thanks to the SSA payment schedule.

The Social Security and SSI payment schedule

Supplemental Security Income payments are sent on the first day of each month. On the third day of each month, money is sent to beneficiaries who began receiving their retirement payments before May 1997.

If a beneficiary receives payment from Social Security (retirees or survivors) and SSI at the same time, the SSI money is sent on the first day of the month and the Social Security money is sent on the third day.

The rest of the Social Security checks (retirees, survivors and SSDI) are sent on Wednesdays. The mailing date is established according to the day of birth of the beneficiaries:

  • Second Wednesday of the month: retirees with a date of birth between the 1st and 10th
  • Third Wednesday: beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th
  • Fourth Wednesday: retirees born between the 21st and the 31st

If any mailing date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or a federal holiday, payment is advanced to the preceding business day. Payments are sent via direct deposit to beneficiaries who have submitted their bank details to the SSA or via mail in a paper check, which takes longer to arrive.
