Who won the $1.76 billion Powerball jackpot?
A single ticket from California won the $1.76 billion Powerball jackpot. Here are the details and winning numbers of the 2nd largest prize ever.
For the drawing this October 11, the Powerball jackpot was $1.765 million, the second largest in the history of this and any other US lottery. After not being won since July, on Wednesday, a lucky ticket from California was the winner.
A single ticket sold in California matched all six numbers drawn Wednesday night. The winning numbers in the October 11 drawing were the white balls 22, 24, 40, 52, 64 and the red Powerball 10. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.
“Congratulations to the newest Powerball billionaire and the millions of Powerball players who won other cash prizes in last night’s drawing,” Drew Svitko, president of the Powerball, said in a statement. Powerball product group and CEO of the Pennsylvania Lottery.
“If you bought a Powerball ticket during this jackpot run, please know that a portion of that ticket will stay in your home state to make it a better place to live,” he added.
The two Powerball payment options
The lucky holder of the winning ticket will be able to choose from an annualized prize worth an estimated $1.765 million, which consists of an immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase 5% each year. The second option is to receive a one-time payment of $774.1 million.

Both prize options are before taxes. Once the prize is won, the winner will be deducted 24%. Additionally, by earning such a high amount, you would have to pay the top federal tax rate of 37%.
On the other hand, the winner would have to pay state taxes, depending on where he or she lives, as some states do not tax lottery winnings or collect income taxes.
