Why are Tia Mowry and Cory Hardrict getting divorced?
The couple, who met on the set of Hollywood Horror two decades ago, announced their amicable split earlier this week.
On Tuesday it was announced that Tia Mowry and husband Cory Hardrict have filed for divorce after 14 years of marriage. The actress confirmed the split in a post on Instagram in which she revealed that the two will remain friends and will co-parents their two children.
“I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways,” she wrote. “These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness. We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children.”
Mowry continued: “I am grateful for all the happy times we had together and want to thank my friends, family and fans for your love and support as we start this new chapter moving forward in our lives.”
In the filing, first reported by TMZ, the 44-yar-old cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation.
Mowry and Hardrict have not yet confirmed the exact terms of the divorce filing but it is thought that the actress has requested that both parents be granted joint-custody of their children, 11-year-old son Cree and 4-year-old daughter Cairo.
Mowry and Hardrict had previously spoken about the challenges of marriage
After 14 years of marriage the couple decided that they could not continue as husband and wife. Hardrict is also an actor and has starred in a number of television shows since the 1990s. He met Mowry on the set of the film Hollywood Horror and, after dating for six years, the pair married on Christmas Day 2006.
The couple’s first pregnancy was chronicled on the reality TV show ‘Tia & Tamera,’ also featuring Mowry’s sister, on the Style Network.
In February 2021 the pair opened up about the challenges of marriage while appearing on People the TV Show. Mowry said that equality was the key and that the couple tried not to restrict parenting duties to traditional gender roles.
“A lot of people, they ask Cory and I, like, ‘What makes your marriage, you know, a great marriage?’” she said. “And if I’m being really honest with you — and we’ve been doing this for years — we don’t focus on specific gender roles.”
“Meaning the women should just do one thing and then the men should just do one thing,” Mowry explained. “It’s a team effort at our house.”
