Communications Director at Meta, Andy Stone, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” It appears that whatever was causing the outage is being taken care of with the number of outage reports on Downdetector rapidly decreasing after peaking around 10:26 am ET.
The company has not provided any other information on what happened to its system merely saying that engineering teams Meta “are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
This isn’t the first time that Meta has had an outage across several platforms. In 2021, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down for nearly six hours due to a configuration issue during routine maintenance.
