Videos of mysterious explosions in Detroit circulating social media
Multiple explosions occurred after an incident at an industrial facility in Detroit with videos on social media showing flames shooting into the sky
Little is known about the cause of multiple explosions in a neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan near 15 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway. What we do know is that they began at around 9 p.m. local time at the Select Distributors plant, which is a wholesale supplier of knickknacks, such as cell phone accessories, that they distribute to discount stores. Clinton Township police and firefighters immediately arrived on the scene, where the explosions caused a burst of flames to shoot into the sky and large, dangerous debris to scatter as far as a mile away.
The authorities stressed the importance of staying as far away as possible as they still don’t know what could potentially be burning and the health risks it could have. “They understand some type of CO2 or propane explosions were taking place at the facility, and again, it was just continuous explosions, as well as the fire,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.
The flames were contained after several hours and at least two people were injured - a responding firefighter and a bystander, who were both taken to the hospital. “Their concern right now is...what’s going on with that air quality? We have a HAZMAT unit that’s out trying to test the air quality so we can get further updates,” said Hackel.
