One of the go-to places for people who wish to shop wholesale is Costco, which has 582 locations in 46 states. It’s only open to members who have to pay an annual fee of $60. If you shop often enough, you are bound to get this money back and more in savings. Buying in bulk enables shoppers to get their daily necessities at a lower price.
After customers pay for and load their purchases onto shopping carts, ready to wheel them away to their cars, employees of the membership warehouse club meet them at the door to check their receipts as they exit. Members are used to this drill, which is also practiced in other warehouse clubs.

Why do they check your receipt when you leave Costco?
Before you exit the building, you must show your receipt to store employees so they can verify your purchase. According to the Costco website, they do this “to double-check that the items purchased have been correctly processed” by their cashiers. "
“It’s our most effective method of maintaining accuracy in inventory control, and it’s also a good way to ensure that our members have been charged properly for their purchases,” says their website.

What exactly do they look at in your Costco receipt?
According to Business Insider, Costco’s checkers are looking at specific things in your receipt.
First, a code on the top and bottom which indicates that the receipt was actually printed on that day; second, the item count which shows them that you do not have less or more than what you paid for; third, if you bought a high-end item like jewelry or electronics, it must have a supervisor’s initials on them; and finally, signifiers for large items like tissue and water which remind the checkers to look at the bottom of the basket.
