Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he would prefer Joe Biden to Donald Trump to be the next US president.

In an interview with pro-Kremlin journalist Pavel Zarubin that was broadcast on Wednesday, Putin said the Democratic candidate would be better for Russia.

“He is a more experienced, predictable person, a politician of the old school,” he said of the US president.

However, the Russian leader clarified that he would be willing to work with whoever wins the November election.

It was the first time Putin had publicly spoken on this year’s presidential race in the US, which is widely expected to be a showdown between the past and present occupants of the White House.

His comments are likely to stir up some chatter, since Trump has long been viewed as someone with cordial relations with Putin, as compared to Biden, who has led the response against Russia’s war on Ukraine.

What did Putin say about his interview with Tucker Carlson?

The Russian president also spoke on his interview with former Fox host Tucker Carlson last week. He expressed disappointment, saying he “didn’t get complete satisfaction” from the broadcast, and that he expected more from interviewer.

Putin said he thought Carlson would be more aggressive and ask tough questions.

“I wanted it, because it would give me the opportunity to respond with equally sharp answers, which would add a certain character to our conversation. But he chose a different tactic,” he said.

Carlson aired his two-hour interview with Putin last week where he let the Russian president ramble on in a monologue. The leader said the ex-Fox host tried to interrupt him several times but otherwise let him continue with his lecture.
