Why is John Cena in the Guinness Book of World Records?
Actor and WWE legend John Cena has added another record to his list of titles officially granting the most wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
John Cena has proved that his good guy persona in the WWE isn’t just a ruse to make him a crowd favorite when wrestling in the ring. The rapper, wrestler and actor with a big heart has set a new record officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Taking his “Never give up” catchphrase, the Peacemaker star has turned it into a motto for sick children. In addition to his record setting world championships, he now holds the title for the most wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

During the nearly twenty years that he has participated with the non-profit organization he has made 650 wishes come true from children wanting to meet him according to Guinness Book of World Records. The Make-A-Wish Foundation helps fulfill the wishes of children age 2-18 who have been diagnosed with a critical illness.
Just as Ric Flair is unlikely to break the tie for the most world wrestling championships, he and Cena both have 16 titles a piece, Cena’s latest record will most likely stand for some time. As the most requested celebrity for the foundation’s wish program he’s the only one to have granted over 200 wishes in the 42-year existence of Make-A-Wish.
The big-hearted face of the WWE’s “Be a Star” anti-bullying campaign began granting wishes back in 2004. The wrestling federation has a history of working with the Make-A-Wish foundation going back to the early 1980s.
When he crossed the 500th wish milestone in 2015 he opened up to ESPN on his philosophy behind the wishes he grants. “I want them to have an experience that will stay with them to forever,” Cena said. “I just drop everything. If I can offer a fantastic experience, I’ll be first in line to do my part.”
Cena also delivers wishes on his own
The champion wrestler doesn’t only make wishes come true for kids through the non-profit foundation, but also responds to requests posted on social media or reports in the news. In one recent example he read about a fan named Misha Rohozhyn, a Ukrainian boy with Down syndrome who escaped from Mariupol after it was attacked by Russia.
The Wall Street Journal reported that his mother Liana told him that they were going to find Cena in order to motivate her son on the journey to safety. The stars aligned, with the actor just an hour’s flight away and with a few days off from work, that Cena was able to show up where Misha and his family have taken refuge in Amsterdam.
