It was the evening of Monday 7 November and we’d reached another rollover that had taken the Powerball lottery jackpot to an incredible $1.9 billion. What would those winning numbers be? Would anyone actually bag the big prize this time? How many other combinations would I get?

All these questions were on out lips, but the results didn’t come as expected.

What happened with the Powerball draw?

“Tonight’s Powerball® drawing has been delayed due to a participating lottery needing extra time to complete the required security protocols,” the California Lottery team announced over Twitter. “Powerball has strict security requirements that must be met by all 48 lotteries before a drawing can occur.”

“When the required security protocols are complete, the drawing will be performed under the supervision of lottery security officials and independent auditors. Winning numbers will be posted as soon as they are available,” it added, before thanking us all for our patience, something that was lost on many.

At the time of writing is is still unclear exactly when the draw will be able to take place but our understanding is that it will only be announced via social media and on the official lottery account. Fortunately, we have you covered, with our own feed that will bring you the news as soon as it happens.
