Why will Prince Harry return to the UK in May? Date of his trip
The Duke of Sussex is making a trip to the United Kingdom next week, but it is unclear if he will visit his family while in London. Here’s what we know.
Prince Harry will be back in the United Kingdom next week for the first time since returning to visit his father after King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer. The Duke of Sussex will attend a ‘Service of Thanksgiving ' at London’s St Paul Cathedral on 8 May.
The ceremony is to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games, which Prince Harry established after his deployment in Afghanistan. The biennial event is a international sporting competition to support “wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.”
“Through sport, we change lives, and save lives,” states the foundation’s website.
Will Meghan Markle attend event with Prince Harry?
It’s not clear whether the Duchess of Sussex will be joining her husband for the ceremony. The couple moved to the United States in 2020 after stepping away from royal duties. They have only visited on a handful of occasions like the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation of King Charles III.
As well, it’s unknown if the duke will pay his family a visit while in the UK. However, in an interview with ABC News in February after his father was diagnosed with cancer he said that he would stop in and see his family “as much as I can.”
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the 75-year-old monarch will resume public engagements next week which he had suspended while he underwent treatment. It hasn’t been disclosed what type of cancer he has but the palace says that his doctors are “very encouraged by the progress he has made so far.”
