Will the post office and banks be open on Thursday Dec. 26?
No mail arrives on Christmas, but what about the day after? Here’s your answer.
Mail is not delivered on public holidays, including Christmas Day, and banks shut their doors. However, the days before and after Christmas are considered normal business days, and those services are typically open.
Christmas is one of eleven federal holidays, with some states offering workers additional days off to honor unique figures or events in the state’s history. For example, California celebrates Cesar Chavez Day in October, and Massachusetts observes Patriot Day in April.

Services available the day after Christmas
The postal service is scheduled to deliver mail on December 26, bringing a sense of anticipation for those who received gifts that didn’t make it in time for the joyful chaos of Christmas morning. Banks will also reopen, but given that they are private entities, they may operate under a different schedule, as staff may request additional vacation days to travel home for the holidays. Banks will be open through the rest of 2024 but will be closed on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1st.
