Winter storm and blizzard alert across the U.S.: Michigan, New York, and other regions hit by heavy snow
Several areas of the United States are under winter weather alerts, with snowstorms, blizzard conditions, and strong winds creating hazardous conditions nationwide. Here is what you need to know.
Winter weather is battering large parts of the United States, with millions of people under alerts for snowstorms, blizzards, and high winds that are expected to create dangerous travel and outdoor conditions across the country.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a blizzard warning for several counties in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. In addition, a winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Vermont, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
The agency has also issued a winter storm warning for parts of Michigan and New York, along with a wind advisory for areas of Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. A high wind warning is in effect for portions of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Winter weather forecast for the coming days
According to the Weather Prediction Center (WPC), moderate to heavy snowfall is expected Monday across parts of southern and eastern New England, including Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Heavy lake-effect snow is also forecast along the shores of Lake Superior and across Michigan. Lake-effect snowfall is expected to continue across the Great Lakes region through Tuesday night, impacting coastal areas in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The WPC also expects light to moderate snow Monday across parts of the Central High Plains and Central Plains, including areas of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming.
In addition, snow is forecast to spread from the Northern Rocky Mountains, including parts of Montana and Idaho, into the Upper Midwest. Several areas of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are expected to see snowfall from Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon.
