You won’t believe what Martha Stewart’s burial plans are: “These coffin things and all that stuff, no way”
The American has spoken out about where she wants to go once she passes away.

When asked what she wants done with her remains, 84-year-old lifestyle icon Martha Stewart didn’t hesitate. During a recent appearance on the podcast 50+ & Unfiltered, Stewart stated plainly: “Oh, I’m going to be composted.”
It’s a surprising and, ahem, down-to-earth departure from tradition. Instead of a coffin or cremation, Stewart envisions returning to the earth on her own terms. She explained that on her farm, when one of her horses dies, they dig a deep grave, wrap the animal in a clean white linen sheet, and gently lay it to rest in a “lovely grave.”
“I want to go there,” she said.
The interior-design mogul made no secret of her feeling toward conventional funerals: “These coffin things and all that stuff? No way,” she declared. She dismissed them as unnecessary, even calling the practice “such a racket.”
“It’s not going to hurt anybody, it’s my property”
When asked whether burying herself on her property would even be legal, Stewart offered a defiant retort: “It’s not going to hurt anybody. It’s my property.”
She owns a large estate in Bedford, New York where she already tends a pet cemetery for her many animals. On that land, Stewart feels she has the right to choose how she’ll rest.
For Stewart, she clearly prefers connecting with the land she’s cared for all these years, rather than being sealed in wood or stone.
Aside from the burial, Stewart opened up on her appearance, saying that she has her “face waxed like once every three months.”
“I have this theory that if one takes care of oneself really well and follows strict, but not life-threatening kinds of disciplines, one can look good, feel good, and be good for a whole life,” she added.
