On 1 June, the United States lost one of its greatest songwriters: Cynthia Weil. The songwriter passed away at the age of eighty-two in Beverly Hills, California.

During her successful career, Weil collaborated with some of the most prominent figures in the music industry for several decades. She worked closely with her partner and husband, Barry Mann, in writing many of these songs. Their exceptional work earned them an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987, as well as the highly coveted Johnny Mercer Award for songwriters in 2004.

One of the most famous songs written by the couple is the 1964 hit ‘You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling’ originally sung by The Righteous Brothers.

What other artists did Cynthia Weil work with?

Some of the most famous artists that Weil wrote songs for include The Everly Brothers (’The Girl Sang the Blues’), The Ronettes (’Walking in The Rain’), and Ray Charles (’One of Us Are Free’). In addition, many other artists would go on to record covers of songs written by Weils and Mann.

Elvis Pressley sang a version of Bobby Vance’s 1968 song ‘I Just Can’t Help Believing.’

B. J. Thomas’ ‘Here You Come Again’ was covered by Dolly Parton, whose version managed to climb to the number three slot on the US music charts.
