Ghost of Tsushima’s movie director “just wants to get it right”
Chad Stahelski acknowledges the poor reception of video game cinematic adaptations and prefers to take time to deliver something that audiences will enjoy.
The upcoming Ghost of Tsushima movie adaptation might take a longer time than we imagined, and that might be a good thing for the final product.
Director Chad Stahelski, better known for his work on the John Wick franchise, recently had an interview with IGN, where he expressed how the production is approaching this film. Considering the bad reputation video game movie adaptations have, he and his team “just want to do it right."
“You know how video game adaptations can go,” mentioned Stahelski. “So we're taking our time and doing it right. We're working very closely with the game developers to make sure we stick to what's great about it." It’s worth remembering that Sucker Punch’s Peter Kang will serve as an executive producer.
When questioned about the script, Stahelski mentioned that although the production crew is working on it, the Ghost of Tsushima fans “would be very happy with what we’re working on”. IGN also notes that there are still no casting decisions for the movie, with Stahelski briefly mentioning that “We haven't gotten that far yet."
When will the Ghost of Tsushima movie premiere?
So far, there’s still no official date set for this movie. Although the movie was first reported in March 2021, few details have been mentioned about the progress. Considering the updates that Stahelski delivered during this interview -with the production still in the scripting phase, and with no options for the main casting selected- we can’t expect the movie to be released soon. We can only hope that all this time will help to deliver a product that reflects what fans loved about playing Ghost of Tsushima.
Meanwhile, we can expect to watch more PlayStation Studios coming to the big and small screen during 2022. The Uncharted movie, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, is expected to arrive in cinemas on February 18th. Meanwhile, HBO's The Last of Us will arrive starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey by early 2022.
